The ten build stages
Every Skiddy build starts from this structure, then adapts to your van.
- 1
Plan and measure
Confirm how you travel, measure the van, and lock a layout before buying materials.
- 2
Strip out and prepare
Remove bulkheads and factory trim, treat any rust, and clean the shell back to bare metal.
- 3
Windows, vents and roof
Cut and seal windows, roof vent and any solar mounts while the shell is still empty.
- 4
Insulation and vapour control
Insulate walls, floor and ceiling, control thermal bridging and fit a vapour control layer.
- 5
First fix electrics
Run cable, place the battery bank and fuse everything at source before panels go on.
- 6
Floor, walls and ceiling
Batten out, fit the subfloor, then clad walls and ceiling.
- 7
Furniture build
Build lightweight modular units: bed, kitchen, seating and storage.
- 8
Water and heating
Fit tanks, pump, sink and heater with proper drain-down and ventilation.
- 9
Second fix and finishing
Sockets, lighting, trims, upholstery and all the small details.
- 10
Safety checks and shakedown
Weighbridge, gas and habitation checks, then a short first trip close to home.
